In June 2005, after only one year of working towards Swim21 accreditation, Saracens were awarded the Silver Standard award for Teaching. This is a fantastic achievement for Saracens and at the time we were one of only 14 clubs in the North West (out of 298 nationally) that had achieved this award.

The club was complimented by the ASA assessor on the number of qualified volunteer Teachers and Coaches delivering the club’s swim programme and also on the quality of the evidence supporting the application.

The club welcomed back back James Hickman and Sarah Bailey (former Saracens swimmers who went on to international success as Olympians) for a publicity event to promote our success in gaining Swim 21 accreditation. Thanks to all the swimmers who attended for the photo shoot at short notice.

What is Swim 21?

The Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) swimmer Development Programme for the 21st Century.

Swim 21 is the ASA’s club development model - a planning tool, enabling clubs to help swimmers, coaches and administrators achieve their full potential. It is centred around the needs of the swimmers - striving to provide them with the best possible environment.  It is regarded as the backbone of the ASA’s development programme.

Swim21 accreditation is ongoing and we have to be audited every year. Saracens needs YOU to help and so maintain our claim to be one of the best and most successful clubs in the North West. We need:

  • A Media and Public Relations co-ordinator and budding press reporters.
  • A designated co-ordinator to liase with local schools and youth organisations (Any teachers or Scout/Guide Leaders out there?).
  • Assistance from parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, family and friends in all aspects of running the club.
  • Funding and sponsorship.
  • Administrators and helpers.

If you have any of these skills and talents, or want to help in any way, then please make contact via this link or our Swim21 co-ordinator (John Norcross tel: 0161 442 8886) and join the Swim21 team.

Alternatively speak to any of the Saracens' Swim21 committee members (listed below) to hear about what you're missing and how you can get involved! We look forward to hearing from you!

It doesn't matter if you can't swim as you can serve as land based volunteers. Whatever input you can give will be appreciated, as would your skills, knowledge and advice. It's also a great way to meet new friends and socialise, and you would be providing a service for the benefit of Saracens.
