The latest recipient of this award is 20 year old swimmer Lauren Quigley. Lauren started swimming lessons at Saracens at the age of 6 and began swimming competitively for the club at the age of 9. We are proud that she remains a member and regular visitor to the club all these years later.
Lauren won her first British senior medal as a 16 year old with a 50m Backstroke bronze in 2011 and added a silver on her international debut at the European Junior Championships in Belgrade. Her first national title came with a gold medal in the 100m Backstroke at the 2013 British Gas Swimming Championships and Lauren made her World Championship debut in Barcelona later that year. In 2014 she achieved British titles in the 50m and 200m Backstroke and competed in her first Commonwealth Games for England at Glasgow 2014, winning 50m Backstroke silver, 4x100m Freestyle Relay silver and 4x100m Medley Relay silver. At this year’s British Swimming Championships Lauren not only secured silver medals in the 100m Back and 50m Freestyle and Backstroke and a bronze in in the 100 Free, but, as the championships doubled as the British selection trials for the 16th FINA World Championships, she also secured her place on the British team and so will be off to Russia in July to represent her country.
She now has her sights firmly set on the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and we will continue to follow her career with interest and enormous pride.
